In our last article, we explained how Burdi calculates the maximum labour cost for a job. This ensures your profit target is protected before labour, materials, and bonuses are paid out.

But Burdi goes one step further: once the maximum labour cost is set, the system converts that into maximum job time for the technician. This gives you complete control over both costs and hours, ensuring jobs stay profitable. You can find out the maximum job time for a technician by using the Bonus Calculator.

How does the Bonus Calculator Work?

The formula is simple:

Maximum Labour Cost ÷ Technician Cost = Maximum Job Time

This tells you the maximum number of hours a technician can spend on a job while still achieving your desired GP.

Example Technician Cost Table

Here are the hourly costs for each technician level:

Example 1: Tech 1 on the Job

• Maximum Labour Cost = $75 (See how this is calculated)

• Technician Cost = $80/hr

Calculation:
$75 ÷ $80 = 0.94 hours (~56 minutes)

👉 If Tech 1 is assigned, they should complete the job in under an hour to keep within profit targets.

Example 2: Tech 4 on the Job

• Maximum Labour Cost = $75

• Technician Cost = $120/hr

Calculation:
$75 ÷ $120 = 0.63 hours (~38 minutes)

👉 If Tech 4 is on the job, they need to finish more quickly because their cost per hour is higher.

Example 3: Tech 1 + Tech 4 Working Together

Sometimes jobs require two technicians. Burdi accounts for this by splitting the maximum labour cost across their combined hourly rates.

• Maximum Labour Cost = $75

• Tech 1 = $80/hr

• Tech 4 = $120/hr

• Combined Hourly Rate = $200/hr

Calculation:
$75 ÷ $200 = 0.38 hours (~23 minutes) each working together.

👉 This ensures that even with two technicians on site, the job remains profitable.
